Captain Smith leaves his dinner early to check on Titanic's approach to the ice. He arrives on the bridge and gives an order to 2nd Officer Lightoller to maintain speed and heading. Smith discuses with Lightoller the unusual calmness of the ocean, and how it will make the icebergs hard to see. He then leaves Lightoller in charge of the bridge and retires for the night.
