April 14, 1912: Murdoch Assumes Watch

By 10pm, the weather is clear and sea remains calm. The cloudless, moonless sky is filled with stars and the temperature is 32°F. Lookouts Fredrick Fleet and Reginald Lee take over for George Symons and Archie Jewel in the crows nest. Commenting on the cold weather, Fleet tells Lee that he can "smell ice when it is near". Down on the bridge, First Officer Murdoch takes over the watch for Second Officer Lightoller. Meanwhile, the lights in the third class general room are extinguished ending the party.
